What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler that contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) that is suspended in a sodium carboxymethylcellulose gel carrier. The solution is approximately 30% CaHA and 70% gel carrier by volume. It is primarily used to reduce the signs of aging by stimulating the naturally-occurring collagen beneath the skin. It also adds volume and will provide lift and correct sagging cheeks and jowls.
Uses For Radiesse
Radiesse is often used to smooth moderate to severe wrinkles and folds in the face as well as in the hands to help with volume loss. It’s typically used in the skin around the nose and mouth to reduce the appearance of laugh lines and smile lines. It can also be used to reduce the appearance of acne scarring.
If you’re struggling with crepiness or skin aging on the chest, neck, or hands, Radiesse can also be diluted and work effectively for those issues as well.
The results can last for up to two years.
The Radiesse Procedure
The procedure to administer Radiesse is relatively easy and painless. The injection is administered using a tiny needle that is put under the skin. Dr. Damstetter may also use a local anesthetic to help with any discomfort. Lidocaine is FDA-approved to be combined with Radiesse to ease any discomfort during the procedure.
The whole process takes about 15 minutes but can take longer if you’re getting multiple injections in different areas. There is no recovery or downtime. You can go home or back to work immediately.
After the procedure, you will want to avoid direct sun exposure, significant movement in the treated area, applying makeup, and hot tubs or hot baths. You may experience some swelling, bruising, and redness but that is normal and temporary.
