As laser and light treatments like IPL continue to grow in popularity, new options are developed to treat a range of common skin concerns. Light & Bright is a new treatment from Candela which combines IPL and non-ablative treatments for improved results. Dr. Liz Damstetter now offers Light & Bright for Reserve Dermatology patients in Glenview, Illinois.
What is Light & Bright?
Light & Bright is a unique aesthetic treatment that combines IPL (intense pulsed light) with fractionated non-ablative lasers to rejuvenate the skin. Combining these two technologies, Light & Bright effectively treats pigmented lesions like sunspots, vascular lesions like capillaries, and textural irregularities like wrinkles and fine lines. This combination does not break the skin, but instead administers rapid and controlled bursts of light to target the unwanted blood vessels or excess melanin, as well as stimulate new collagen production.

The Light & Bright Procedure
Before your Light & Bright procedure begins, Dr. Damstetter will review the treatment area, your cosmetic goals, and your health history to make sure that Light & Bright is the best option for you. Prior to your treatment, you should avoid tanning through sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanning products.
After cleansing your skin, the Light & Bright handpiece will be directed to the treatment area, where it will administer rapid flashes of light. A topical numbing cream may be used to keep you comfortable through this process. Light & Bright should not be painful, though you may feel a mild tingling or stinging sensation. The procedure usually takes between 30-45 minutes.
After treatment, you can expect some redness or swelling. Applying a cold compress can help alleviate these side effects. Avoid sun exposure and apply any prescribed ointments as directed. It is recommended that you avoid applying makeup until your skin has healed following Light & Bright treatment according to your dermatologist’s directions. No downtime is required after Light & Bright treatment.
Most patients require a series of three treatment sessions to achieve their ideal results. This can vary depending on the concern you are treating or other factors. Dr. Damstetter will explain your treatment plan during your consultation.
Light & Bright Results
After your Light & Bright treatment session, you may notice the skin peeling or lightly sloughing off in areas of pigmentation. When this healing process is complete, you should see smoother, more even, and more youthful skin. Results will gradually continue to improve as the skin heals, with final results noticeable after your final treatment session. Dr. Damstetter will explain when you can expect to see final results and monitor your progress after each treatment session.
